Feb2023: Conference Apuntando Ao Mar, Ferrol (ES)
9.-11. Februar 2023

The Provincial Council of A Coruña in Galicia, Spain, invited experts and best practices from all over Europe to Ferrol to promote the development of the important cultural heritage of the fortified monuments of the municipalities of Ares, Ferrol and Valdoviño. FORTE CULTURA was represented by Natasa Urosevic and Dirk Röder.

Over the years European fortified sites have been transforming into places for participation in arts, culture and memory. They also reveal their potential in regional sustainable development and climate change adaptation. The 2022 EFFORTS Europe congress was organised on fortified heritage revitalisation subjects: horizontal integration of the role of fortified heritage, re-use and adaptation strategies, and social integration and creative innovation in local communities.

Forte Marghera, located on the bridge to the lagoon city of Venice, provided a worthy setting for the conference that brought together fortress experts from Italy, Finland, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Spain, Belgium and Ukraine. The event, hosted by Fondazione Forte Marghera and supported by EFFORTS and FORTE CULTURA, offered best practices in the field of fortress restoration, museology, tourism, digitalisation and much more. The conference was streamed live.

5th symposium on the expansion of fortification cooperation in the Upper Rhine: "Youth Encounters and Inclusion" - Development of target group-oriented offers in fortified monuments

Youth encounters and inclusion was the topic of this year's conference on the Upper Rhine. A good 30 representatives of the fortified monuments of the Upper Rhine gathered information in the town hall of the fortified town of Germersheim about project ideas, funding opportunities and best practices in the field of youth encounters and inclusion. Based on the exciting presentations, the participants developed their own ideas for the implementation of inclusive offers and youth encounters in their fortified monuments in a workshop.

Annual General Meeting of the FORTE CULTURA Fortress Network

29 members and guests from 7 countries met for the FORTE CULTURA General Assembly 2021 at the Fortress Königstein (Saxony).The Executive Board and the Scientific Committee presented a highly impressive performance report on the activities and results of the last 15 months. Highlights were the positive network development, project developments and the extensive workshop and conference programme I cooperation with EFFORTS.

Fortress Tourism at Upper Rhine Region - guided tours and travel development with FORTE CULTURA

The 4th symposium dealt with the question of how cross-border tourism for the fortified monuments of the Upper Rhine region can be organised in cooperation with the European Cultural Route FORTE CULTURA. The practice-oriented contents provided information on the way as a fortress monument to a booked tourism destination. Concrete travel modules for fortress tourism in the Upper Rhine region were developed in workshop sessions.

Sustainable Valorisation of Fortified Heritage
The FORTE CULTURA / EFFORTS joint scientific group prepared an evaluation conference to the SUSTAINABLE VALORISATION OF FORTIFIED HERITAGE, hosted by the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula.

The online conference should support the cultural heritage of fortified monuments by sharing and discussing of best practices throughout Europe in different topics. THE PURPOSE is, therefore, to develop international and multidisciplinary scientific and research network and exchange information and experiences related to EUROPEAN BEST PRACTICE in fortified heritage management.
